Save after you pay

Fuel cashback from debit and credit cards

Compare the pump price first, then see whether your payment card can reduce the final cost. We separate public cashback from personalised offers so you can tell what is genuinely available to you.

Payment-card savings at a glance

“Public offer” means the provider publishes a common rate and rules. “Check your account” means availability and terms can vary for each cardholder.

Chase UK

2% everyday cashback

Public offer

2% back on eligible fuel, up to £20 a month

Chase lists service stations and petrol pumps as an eligible cashback category, including fuel bought at major supermarkets. Eligibility is determined using the merchant category code.

Card type: Debit or credit card

Important conditions

  • A Chase current account and saver account are required; age, residency and eligibility rules apply.
  • For the following month, keep at least £1,000 across eligible Chase saver accounts every day and make at least 15 qualifying card or Direct Debit payments.
  • Eligible transactions must be at least 50p, made in GBP in the UK or Channel Islands, and cashback is capped at £20 per month.

How to use it

  1. Check in the Chase app that you qualified for cashback this month.
  2. Pay the fuel retailer directly with an eligible Chase debit or credit card.
  3. Check the cleared transaction and rewards balance; merchant coding and exclusions can affect eligibility.

Card-specific offers—not a universal fuel rate

Amex Offers can provide cashback, discounts or rewards at selected merchants, but the available brands, spend threshold and expiry can differ by Cardmember. Add Oil therefore does not claim that every Amex card currently has a fuel offer.

Card type: Eligible Amex card

Important conditions

  • Log in to the Amex app or online account to see the offers available on your particular card.
  • Read the merchant, location, minimum-spend and expiry conditions before buying fuel.
  • Most UK-issued personal and business Amex cards can participate, while some corporate, gift and prepaid cards are excluded.

How to use it

  1. Open the Amex Offers section and look for a relevant fuel retailer or service-station offer.
  2. Save the offer to the eligible card before making the purchase.
  3. Pay with that same card and meet every condition shown in the saved offer.

The Add Oil method

Compare the final price—not just the headline reward

  1. 1. Pump price

Find the cheapest suitable station near your actual route.

  2. 2. Retailer reward

Apply a fuel offer or loyalty reward only if its terms permit it.

  3. 3. Payment cashback

Check card eligibility, monthly caps and merchant coding before relying on the saving.

Before relying on cashback

Cashback depends on the card provider recognising the retailer under an eligible merchant category. Offers, caps and eligibility can change. For a credit card, interest and fees can cost more than the reward—only spend what you can afford and consider paying the balance in full. Add Oil is independent of Chase, American Express and fuel retailers. We do not currently receive a commission for the official links on this page. Always check the provider's current terms before spending or applying.
